Typical workplace accidents to avoid

Workers in Kentucky may face a variety of hazards while on the job. Some of the most common hazards are slipping, tripping and falling. Slips generally occur because of rugs or mats that are torn or bunched up. They can also occur if a floor or other surface becomes oily or wet because of a spill or some type of weather event. Carpets can also be a tripping hazard for employees. Furthermore, poor lighting or objects left uncovered on a floor may result in a person tripping and getting hurt.

Many fatal workplace accidents are caused by vehicle collisions. These can occur when a car collides with a person repairing a road or otherwise working close to traffic.

In some industries, explosions are a major risk to workers. Individuals could be harmed by objects flying into them or from being lifted off the ground by the force of a blast. A worker could also be harmed by breathing in toxic fumes.

While less dramatic, musculoskeletal disorders are a common issue for workers. These injuries are the result of repetitive movements and overexertion. Overexertion could occur when a worker lifts too much weight or doesn’t lift it in a proper manner.

Someone who has been hurt at work may file a workers’ compensation claim. If a request for benefits is granted, the employee could be entitled to a portion of their pay while out of work. These payments may become permanent if they are unable to return to work. The workers’ compensation system may also help to pay an injured worker’s medical bills related to the accident that caused the injury.
