Hearing loss could result in disability benefits

If an individual in Kentucky has experienced hearing loss, they may be able to apply for Social Security disability benefits. An examiner will need to determine if the applicant has sufficiently low hearing sensitivity and speech discrimination scores. If possible, that determination will be made using medical evidence provided by an applicant. If no evidence is provided, it will likely be necessary for the individual to take part in an audiometric consultative examination.

Qualifying for Social Security Disability benefits

The Social Security Administration pays benefits to qualified individuals in Kentucky and around the country who have been unable to work for valid reasons for a year or more. In order to qualify, an applicant's occupation must first be a job covered by Social Security. Also, the resulting medical issue must meet the SSA's definition of what's considered a disability. The basic goal is to help individuals transition back to work whenever possible.

Denied SSD applicants often cannot return to labor market

When people in Kentucky apply for Social Security Disability benefits, many face denials, at least in the initial stages of the process. However, applicants' need for benefits is underlined by the situations that they face when they attempt to get a job after a denial. Under the law, Social Security Disability Insurance mandates that beneficiaries must have a documented, serious medical condition that prevents them from doing any feasible job. People can be denied even if there is no indication that they will ever be able to obtain the type of job that evaluators believe they could theoretically perform.

What people should do when they become disabled

Kentucky workers who have suffered a disabling injury or illness that prevents them from returning to their jobs might be eligible for Social Security Disability Insurance benefits. There are several things that people can do to improve their chances of approval.
