Paducah, Kentucky: On Thursday, June 4, criminal defense attorney David Bundrick of Edwards & Kautz Law Firm settled a case involving 196 counts of animal cruelty. In exchange for her guilty plea, his client avoided serving any jail time. Deborah Luken, 54, pleaded guilty to 196 counts of animal cruelty and received 196 suspended 90-day sentences along with a court order to seek a mental health evaluation and follow any recommended treatment. An anonymous note tipped off the McCraken County Sheriff’s Department and led to the seizure of 3 rats, 6 ducks, 7 chinchillas, 11 exotic birds, 83 dogs, and 86 rabbits from Luken’s property in March. The animals are currently living in temporary foster homes and will be put up for adoption. Luken will be required to pay $3,400 in restitution to cover the expense of caring for the animals. Bundrick says he is pleased with the outcome of the case: “It makes sure that the animals are cared for.
